Government on Wednesday allotted spectrum to four operators, including RIL-owned Infotel, in all 22 circles and Bharti Airtel in four, paving the way for starting high-speed mobile broadband.

According to senior officials in DoT 20 Mhz of spectrum has been given to the four firms — Infotel, Bharti, Aircel and Tikona Digital, which have licences to offer services.

The other two — Qualcom and Augere (Mauritius) Limited — would be given the radio waves as soon as they procure telecom licences, they said, adding there is no other problem with their cases. The government had recently held auction for selling spectrum for 3G and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) services and had collected over Rs 1,06,262 crore.

With the BWA, the operators can offer broadband services that can facilitate high-speed wireless transmission of data. The speed can be as high as up to 40 Mbps. The operators have started talks with the telecom vendors like Samsung, Motorola, Ericsson and firms like Huawei and ZTE for deploying either Wimax or LTE platform.

I hope Reliance brings in cheap high speed internet access. I am willing to shell out 2K for a 4Mbps unlimited connection, without FUP, speed drops, disconnections, incorrect bills etc if they ever plan to bring out one! :P

Dude are you serious ? 2k for 4mbps :S

When we are getting a latest technology deployed and that too in a country advancing in telecommunication like insane. We must keep our hopes high. It is really good to see Reliance because it always conquers with it's great pricing and wait for Qualcomm it is also going to shake the market.

Well, maybe i am too optimistic but with this new tech i will expect at least 10-15mbps for 2k :)

Even 1mbps @Rs.500/- with out FUP is enough for me.....:D

Exactly! I am sure we will get them at very low prices.

Reliance's track record with disputed billing + speed drops + disconnections + bad customer care & back-end technical deficit will be the real big problem.. Considering its WiMax I am suspicious of their service quality.... :(

I have high hopes about BWA.only thing that worries me is the fup.Dont know if they will bring real unlimited plans.
