Need an inkjet printer for home, which I will carry back with me..
Uses - High quality photo printouts, 10~20 black text sheets a day (kid sisters assignments, letters etc), colour and B/W brochures (not regularly).

Individual ink tanks will be a plus, as will anything more than 4 colors...

Please don't suggest sub 5K printers... don't want cheap ones..

Max budget 13K...

Size not really a problem... weight could be (since I have to cart it home with me)..:p

I have heard good things about the pixma range, any users? Also any chance of a decent monochrome laser for under 12K?

help please?

Canon Pixma iP4200 for 11k is the best photo printer in a budget of 13k

but if you want a Bluetooth Wireless Photo Printer then Canon Pixma iP6220D for 11k is the best.

for photo printing in a 13k budget dont look at any printer other than the two above.

if you want a decent monochrome laser for under 12K then buy the Canon LBP-3200 for 11k.

in my life I have used two Epson's & two Canon's and I must say that the two Canon's are the best.

Oh yeah :eek:hyeah: baby.. Thanks udit, this one seems GOOD...

btw as far as text printing goes, and idea of running costs.. As I haven't used any canon printers myself, what are the costs of black ink for this model (IP4200 that udit mentioned), are the colour tanks readily available?

1st shot hit :p ..I like this printer!!

I have a Canon S530D that I bought 3 years ago in the US. This is my first Canon - previous one was an Epson. Don't know if the issues below are common to other Canon's.

Pros:

1. The quality is really amazing. I print out photos to share with family, friends and even passport/visa pics at home. Especially so with good quality photo paper or hi-resolution paper.

2. It has a CF slot with adapters and it's quite easy to print out contact sheets and pics directly from a SD/CF card.

3. Ink cartridges are easily available, although not as common as HP.

Cons:

Only one: It's addicted to ink ;-) Seriously, if you don't use the printer for a few days and then turn it on, it will automatically clean the heads, i.e. use up ink. If you leave the printer on (attempt to defeat the auto-clean) then the head will clog and you will have to do a cleaning cycle to clean the heads. Since I use it at home this situation happens often. I have just learnt to accept it. If you open the cover of the printer to dust it, and then close the cover, it will recalibrate and auto-clean the heads.

Added: It uses the BCI-3eY, 3eM, 3eC, 3eB series of cartridges that retail for around $11-13 in the US and around Rs.500-600 each in India.
