In order to make our leaders hi-tech and to reduce paper work, parliament has decided to sanction around 50000 rupees to each MP for buying an iPad or other high end tablets. MPs are expected to read proposed bills, budget speeches, and other parliamentary schedules on these iPads and not insist on getting a physical copy. Not sure about the MPs, but the iPad surely has come a long way.

but why the 15k extra? doesn't a fuking iPad comes for 35k

ohh...i get it... its for education for the MP's as most are illetrate

They were going to move the computers to ubuntu or something to save costs right ? How can they justify this expense now

It takes eternity to approve any bill in parliament but when it comes to wasting money it gets approved in a day :@ :@ :@.

50k for an Ipad? I thought one topic learnt from CWG scam was not to pay more for an object than it's actual cost.

WHO actually lobbied for this I wonder.. And as per standard govt practices.. This would done through a public tender. They just can't shortlist one be vendor through their own discretion..

The govt would have given out a proposal to spend maximum of 50k for each touch-tablet including extended warranty and user training..

All expenses have to be accounted for and justified or you can easily file a PIL/RTI to bring these guys in.

(swoooosh)

To whom

Ants like you and me crawling in front of them

they dont care

What happened to that original bharat tablet or whatever they were planning to develop for 10k?

And besides, doesn't Apple give discount to govt and universities?

WTF ? As Ompuri said, "aadhe se jyaada toh ganwar, nalayakbaithe hain."

Few would be in need of a computer assiastant to send a mail, now they need one more assistant to operate the iPad.

Serious waste of our money :@:@

Someone needs to tell them "Tumahre baap ka paisa nahi hai jo uda rahe ho"

Money allotted. Its up to them to get the stuff.

This is a clear case how to fool.

How an object available cheap is being get with a tag of 50k.Remaining money will go in pocket.Similarly tenders and road repairs done.

If they make it compulsory to use them, it would actually be beneficial in the long term. IINM, the budget itself runs into thousands of pages, same with other bills. Multiply that by 500 odd MP's and that's a huge waste of money and trees.

but from that point of view an eink reader would have been great. Cheap and effective. Now you will have Sharad Pawar playing Cricket 2011 and Sushma Swaraj playing Angry Birds in parliament.
