Installation Linux

I want to install Linux in my laptop. Following are my queries:

1. Which is the best Linux OS that I should be installing in my laptop ?
2. How much disk parition is enough for this , is 10 GB enough for the same?

1. There are plenty of distros available. If you are new to linux, try SUSE or ubuntu.

2. 10 GB is more than enough!

well if you mean read/write on ntfs partitions, yes it can be made so. just use the ntfs-3g driver to mount the ntfs partitions for write permission
