Installation Ubunttu

Hi,
My laptop hdd crashed. Got a new one. Tried installing ubunttu 10.04 i think. But i am not able to boot. Check the disc, its fine. Also checked for the boot settings in my BIOS. All seem good. Anyone knows how to get around this?
 
What error are you getting? What's your system spec? Did you try running any other live linux distro (linux Mint)? Before your HDD crashed what OS were you using?
 
boot either from usb or disc and press f8 or f9(not sure). in boot screen select the disc or usb...

If the error occurs, tell us in specific...
 
I get no error. Just get a blank screen. With a blinking line. Continues forever. Previously i was using win XP. I have a laptop. 1 GB RAM, core 2 duo @ i.8 GHz. And mother board intel 910.

Hi

You can select advanced boot options from the ubuntu boot menu by pressing F6.What is your graphics card btw ?

Try turning apic and no modeset off while booting.Also delete the words quiet and splash from the boot command.That will tell you what is going on instead of a blinking cursor.
