Linux Installing application

I am new to linux.
I have installed FC6

but here i don't know how to install any application.
btw wht is the extension of files here like .exe in windows.

plz help.

ifuwant to run most of the win32 application then use:

Wine HQ

and for easy install of Internet Explorer 6.0

Fedora uses rpm packages(.rpm extension),

To install RPM packages

#rpm -ivh <fullnameofapplication> or simply press tab to complete the command

To unistall

#rpm -e <filename>

p.s:. You need admin right to install/unistall packages.

full name of application that's ok,
but wht about the path.

And can we switch between gnome & kde environment in fedora 6, if yes then how to do it?

the command i remember was

# switchdesk kde

# switchdesk gnome

also if u boot in "init 5 " that is the Graphical boot u can choose which windows manager to use if u have installed both gnome and kde.
