Hello, I am building a computer for the first time, I am very concerned with installing the CPU on the mobo, it is very delicate so what do you guys think I should take care of? I have heard people bend their CPU/chipset while installing and putting pressure on the lock. Please let me know how hard it is to install a CPU and whether a newbie can do it or not? :D

It's easy. Just don't apply any pressure while putting the cpu into the socket. It'll fall into place easily if it's been correctly aligned.

Read the manual that comes with the CPU for installation instructions. Everything installs effortlessly. If you find yourself struggling to get things to fit , then stop and call someone more experienced cos you're doing it wrong.

Thanks for the reply.
I basically know that the arrow needs to be matched in an Ivy bridge CPU, but is that enough, should I hold the CPU in two figures, place it on top of the socket and just drop it? Then after that should I move the CPU to check whether it is aligned? How much pressure should I put on the latch? Will there be any crunching sound?? I have seen tons of videos, that is why I am asking, some say there is a sound and some say there is no sound. :O

There won't be any crunching sound.

The CPU manual will give you install guide with pictures. There may be more than one way the cover plate on the MoBo is fixed to the latch. Some plates lift up along with the latch, in some cases, the cover plate stays on the MoBo, only the latch lifts up. The CPU manual will guide you for both cases.

Align with the guides & the 1st pin (the small golden triangle at one corner). It is not as big a deal as it is made out be by the shops. You mentioned you've already seen many videos, so theoretically such doubts should not arise.

Once in place, the CPU would not be loose. Do not apply any pressure from the top. At the most gently nudge it from the side to see if it is formly seated or not.

The pressure on the latch would be similar to the pressure req'd to fix the cover plate. Try opening & closing the latch with the cover plate. You will get the feel of the req'd pressure.

All the best!

There are plenty of youtube videos showing how its done

Hope I will install the CPU rightly then.

If you are not sure, then stop installing the CPU and call any experience person to install it, because installing a CPU is bit risky if a installer is a newbie like you. Sorry if I'm a bit so harsh.

@Ankur.J: Did you install the processor yet? Check out these videos just in case.

What do you think, should I POST the computer on the motherboard box and check out whether the display is shown or directly install the CPU and then the mobo into the case?

It's best if you install CPU in mobo and then into your case.
It's a best and secure solution for you to installing a CPU in your mobo. Best of luck.

I doubt you can go wrong. It will not dock incorrect. It is notched to negate an incorrect fit.
