CPU/Mobo Installing Video card on ASUS P5KPL AM/PS

Here is the system specifications-:
Core 2 duo E4600
ASUS P5KPL AM/PS
2GB DDR2
Colorsit 450W PSU

Here is the issue I installed ATI X1650 pro video card on my friends PC today. Also installed the drivers that came with it.Now here is the issue.Games are running as if they run are running on onboard VGA---laggy and no shader effects. What could be the reason behind this issue?I checked up the BIOS and couldn't understand a damn thing there. Also I didn't find any option to disable the onboard VGA and enable PCI-E graphics.Monitor cord is plugged in Video card VGA output. Also when I open catalyst control center, under advanced view -->information tab--->hardware ,it says PCI bus setting as empty where it is supposed to display X16.

just install GPU-z from techpowerup and see what card it shows. Since you have plugged in your monitor cable to the gfx card output there is no chance that your onboard vga is used.

try updating the drivers. If GPU-z shows the correct card, then it might be an incompatibility issue. Try it in windows vista/7
