Installing Windows 7 on XP - Upgrade possible

I had some files in Win XP and now when i try to change them it says its readonly only admin can do so , my user is admin but still cant do so.

Can anyone tell whenever i run a exe it asks me for User Account Control and then have to click yes to start it any way i can avoid it ?

^you can avoid it permanently. Goto control panal> User Account>Change User account Control settings> The notch is at recommended by default, bring it down to Never Notify
Thats it :)

^Yup that's how you disable it. Pretty annoying I must add. That's the first thing I do once I get into Windows after the installation, before commencing the installation of the basic drivers. I must add, please download and install the drivers for your chipset, ethernet controller, audio chip etc. If you cannot find those, let us know your motherboard so we could suggest you the links.

Oh and welcome to the bright side Dinjo! It might take some time to get used to Win 7 but I guess you'll love the new experience. ;)

I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 3bit on my family pc which is a C2D E4500 @ Stock + 2GB DDR2 800 RAM and the performance is so so much better. The performance is total bliss now, absolutely perfect. Being new it runs perhaps slightly better than my PC too in some respects perhaps, tho mine is a Core i7 @ 3.675 + 4gb ddr3 1600 cas 7 RAM!

Install 32bit if you have 2GB or less. If you have 3GB or more, go for 64bit. And make sure htat you do have at least 2GB RAM.

Ah yes. I had made the mistake of installing 64bit a long time ago with 2GB RAM. That little RAM couldn't handle the extra memory footprint from 64bit. Very irritating at times. But then I got 4GB and all sped up SO fast.

MB is P5GC MX 1333 looking for chipset and LAN driver , got the audio driver but while install it says Windows cant verify publisher in red and even after clicking on Install this driver anyway does not work.
