i have a intel 865gbf mb, which has 4 ide and 2 sata ports. i believe its sata1.
i currently have a 200gb internal sata working perfectly.
will this old motherboard support 500gb or 1tb internal sata hdd?

um

i ask coz i have read somewhere that 500gb and higher use sata2 which is 3gb/s max data transfer speed. but mine is sata1 and will only do 1.5gb/s max data transfer speed.

therefore iam checking of compatibility be fore buying one.

i too had a 865gbf board before and used a 320gb hdd with is . The point is that you must adjust the jumpers on the hdd so that it can run on 1.5gb/s speed .

update.

1tb internal doesnt work on a intel 865gbf. luckily i got a frns 1tb to test.

finally i bought a external 1tb.

sorry for bumping old thread

but i need this info..

can somebody confirm this..

im planning to get seagate 7200.12 1tb for my old P4-865gbf system

my old mobo 865gbf supports sata1 so i just need to change the jumper settings

and for the psu i need a molex to sata converter

will it work then..

wat should i do if it doesnt work-

1. use it as external hdd with casing through usb (slow)

2. use sata to ide convertor and use it internally (damn slow)

that is BS.
pci slot has maximum bandwidth of 133MBps = 1.06Gbps

don't just suggest blindly.

Actually forgot the fact that his slot is PCI. I know that PCI max band is 133MB/s and PCI-e max band is 500MB/s.
