One pretty interesting piece of information emerged from the R&D labs is that the 875P/865 chipsets can support Intel dual-core processors with just a BIOS flash. It has been tested and running well so far as we have learned. However, 925/915 series may poise a problem and a circuitry re-wiring on the PCB might be needed to support dual-core.

thats a breather for ppl with 865/875 boards.. only if Intel comes up with a good enough CPU to make the CPU-ONLY upgrade for such ppl worthwhile.. ;)

I have the ASUS P4C800ED board which is based on the 875P chipset and if it can support Intel dual-core processors with just a BIOS flash it would be GREAT

hehe won't be that easy... they'll only be released in Socket T(LGA 775) form not the Socket 478 form. Thats why I guess only that DFI board will work :|

If 865/875 supports dual core and given the facts that
1) majority of these are socket 478 based
2) the general feeling that dual core will only be released in socket 775

I guess there will be a case for a socket 775 to socket 478 adapter. I wont be surprised in Taiwanese manufacturers come up something like this once the demand for the new dual-core supporting motherboards tapers off.
