AS EXPECTED Intel lifted the non disclosure agreement on its 955 Extreme Edition microprocessor and code named Presler, after the famous Alvis Presler.
The CPU won't officially go on sale until mid-January, but is made on a 65 nanometre form factor and uses the 975X Express chipset.
Cnet has reviewed a system using the Presler which it said has a clock speed of 3.46GHz for each of the dual cores it supports. They say the chip performed well, beating the Athlon 64 X2 4800+ on some benchmarks.
But it doesn't do particularly well on other tests, particularly for gaming and the like, and there seems to be an argy bargy between Nvidia and Intel. The review, here, claims that the 975X chipset only supports ATI Crossfire not Nvidia SLI.
The reviewer claims Intel had submitted boards to Nvidia for certification and Nvidia said it hadn't received them. How odd. You'd think two grown up companies like Chipzilla and Graphzilla would get this kind of detail straight, wouldn't you?
