CPU/Mobo Intel demos Sandy Bridge running at 4.9GHz on AIR !!!!

Didn't see any numbers... but 4.9GHz on air itself sounds bloody impressive. Can't wait till SB is unleashed and numbers are revealed.

The exact numbers are grayed out because of the NDA but the Intel dude says at the end of the video .. the score is north of the 12 core opertron !

Truly impressive performance even if it is just a benchmark. This thing will be a boon to us rendering guys if it does what its saying it can do :)

they are supposed to make this in the AMD opterons segment. This will be interesting when it comes out.

but this demo happened like over a month ago when i first saw th vid.
 
@ comp@ddict .. True that .. finally matching/beating nehalem is a big deal. Although these are still slower than the 6 core westmere beasts.

This chip @ 4.9ghz equals a 980x @ 3.6-3-8 Ghz.

Thats a lot of power for a sub 600 $ cpu. This chip in the video is definately the Core i7 2600K chip.

Time to see what bulldozer can do.. have a feeling they are in trouble at least in-terms of performance. Bulldozer should be looking at taking on the socket 2011 systems that will come later on (4th quarter of 2011) but i really really dont think that can happen. It will be good if they get close. Competition is always good for us :) !!.

Right now intel has no reason to drop prices on its high end chip at all. They are simply un-equaled in terms of purer power.

If Bulldozer gets close to 2011 . who knows what will happen !! But i seriously seriously doubt that. Right now 4 Sandy Bridge Cores are beating 12 Opertron cores !! :O

That result is made to look a little better than it is really. The 4 SB cores are at 4.9ghz with the opteron cores are likely around 2.5-2.7ghz.
AMD is way way behind Nehelam if you compare core to core performance and the newer X6's only bridge the cap a little but as we have seen only select applications prefer 6 real cores and Nehelam 4 cores are still way ahead in most cases.

Bulldozer they are looking to get 8 cores out but for some reason AMD have been having trouble increasing their per core performance and if their next gen chips dont atleast come really really close to Nehelam I see the same story continuing and AMD are in a deep shit.

I really hope that happens though or even better it equals or betters SB , that would lead to great pricing for us and such close competition is great to watch also with both going at each other hard (Like the gpu scenario atm). Nehelam is 2 years old now and AMD should be able to better it.

Right now though its quite boring Intel are flexing their muscles and if SB really is another big leap like Nehelam was you have to worry a for AMD if their bulldozer is just a dozer.

no no check the ANANDTECH Sandy Bridge preview(with loads of benchmarks). The Top of the line Sandy Bridge prototype actually manages to match the Core i7 980X in some benchmarks, and beats it in some others too...

Whatever happens at the end of the day the lower price/great performace is what we are looking for , so whoever offers it is the way to go. No point in calling AMD deep sh!t.

I second that. The guy who wrote that line(dun wanna take his name also......... okay LOL) needs to understand fanboi before showing his pointy at oders. :D

Opteron 12 Cores are just shitty 6 cores joined with super glu, but they are only attached, the faggot's brains dont work together. No wonder their performance is dismal. sandy Bridge is obviously triumphant over those.
