CPU/Mobo Intel E8400 vs AMD X2 555

Umm, E8400 is LGA775, in short it's dead.

You'd be better off buying a QUAD CORE for Higher End Applications(god knows what you mean by that, please specify which applications).

Please state your budget. And since your are open to AMD or INTEL, I presume you'd be buying a motherboard too.

So I repeat, please state:-

1. Your Budget for CPU + MOBO

2. Your purpose(specify the apps please, eg-photoshop etc.)

1. Motherboard G31/G41 in case of intel and incase of AMD any entry level in the range of 3-3.5k

2. Mainly Gaming with medium setting, sometime video editing

3. Having 4gb ram, 3870 gpu

You will be better off with the AMD x2 555. And the fact that you can unlock its cores with a proper motherboard, sweetens the deal.

Exactly, AMD adds a better punch than the Intel processor for the budget. If you do have the money to burn then go for a good i7 processor.

Check these links I hope they help :)

Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News - Athlon II 645 vs. Intel Core2Duo E8400

from these benches I got the following conclusions -

Phenom II is only worth it if you plan to unlock it to quad
The Intel offering is EoL and not worth investing
Athlon II is the best bet for your money if you plan to live on stock ~ mild overclocking + lack of L3 cache did not stop it from pulling the quad-core magic, thereby multi-threaded apps will be a breeze + matches the gaming performance of the other 2 processors easy :ohyeah:

these are just my point of view, hope it helped

about motherboard I'm not very aware of prices, but I recommend minimum of 2 GB DDR III RAM + decent 785G based board ~ 7K :ashamed:

^^ EOL - End Of Life.

:P

BTW, the X2 555 is ur best bet.
Bro check out the multithread benches the Athlon II even with its so called lack of L3 cache has a lead on both the Phenom II and Core2Duo and is cheaper than the Phenom II.

and the 'if' - factor in the unlock to quad is very high dependent on board and willingness of the party to this factor, so I stick to the Athlon II
