Hi,

One of my friends wants to go for a somewhat gaming laptop for around 45K. I was looking at the laptop price list from a previous list(thanks to the kind fella for collating the data).

I was considering the following

Compaq V6211AU
Lenovo 7761 24Q
Acer Aspire 5052 ANWXMi
HP Pavilion dv 2122 TX or HP Pavilion dv 2214 TU

Anyone who has bought these laptops can you let us know your experience?

Also, I'm mainly interested in which gpu would be better for gaming i.e. Intel GMA950, Geforce Go 6150 and Radeon Xpress 1100?

I guess a slower processor would do but a good gfx card would be a must.

Intel GMA950, Geforce Go 6150 and Radeon Xpress 1100?

none are good for gaming...

Having said that, the xpress 1100 is the best of the lot and mostly sufficient for older games and the performance should be below a normal X300.

However, there really isn't much of a difference between these three

hey, found sumthing interesting

The std disclaimer on the site of course is that The values can strongly deviate due to different hardware (processor, memory).

from all the reviews around the net, It does seem that Nvidia and ATI IGP's are better then Intel's GMA 950...

since he is spending 45k, I would suggest u look at dell 6400...

if u configure it with core duo 2350 and ATI x1400(discrete GPU), then the cost will be around 48k, and u can play most neew games at low to med resolution...

so do chck out www.dell.co.in

Thanks a lot for the info guys. A doubt...I was thinking that the go 6150 is pretty good. My reference is games like FEAR, Doom3, NFS Underground, Quake4 etc. I'm not very interested in the latest games, but maybe pre 2005 and some 2005 games just to give some playability.

So you say that these GPUs are no good even to play these games?

Forget FEAR on the 6150

at best, you'll get fx5200 like performance which wasnt even sufficient for Far Cry

The X1400 should be able to handle the games you have listed decentlly well though

You could also look at the XPS1210 with the 7400 but that unfortunately would cross the 65K mark easily

well also consider that even though ati X1400 has slightly better performance then Go 7400, the Nvidia cards have better supprt fr wide scren resolution

some older games when played on wide screen resolutions have black bars on the sides, but Nvidia cards fare better then ati here...

well I guess I am myself confused....!
But mate fr ur price range dell 6400 is great.

also chck out Hp Dv6200 series with Nvidia 7400 fr around 57k.....

thanks superczar and aka911. I'm now thinking of recommending that my friend go for a dell and configure it himself given what I know now. These pre-determined packages will not suit gaming at least at 45K.

Wanna hear something funny?...I played Doom3 from start right upto the Hell level on my Dell Latidtude D610 with Intel GMA 910 :P (my rig wasn't assembled then.). It was a frame by frame adventure with countless reloads (the system would freeze for around 4-10 seconds when new monsters appeared). So I'm staying away from anything Intel.

even 7400 GO cant handle Fear unless u want it to look like HalfLife 1.

Anywyas u dont hv much choice in non 17" segment.
