Hi, I wanted to assemble a P4 PC and while looking at the processors, I was confused. Could someone tell me which processor is better between "Core 2 Duo E6600/2X2MB/2.40 GHz/1066 MHz", "Pentium D 3.2 Ghz (LGA 775)800/2X2MB/940" and "Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz(LGA 775)800/2MB/640"? My confusion is due to the fact that the 1st one is the latest, the speed of the latter 2 are much more!

Also, between the Pentium D and the Pentium 4, which is better and would the Pentium D require a special motherboard or would the normal 945 Mobo be sufficient?

Also, would someone by chance know of any websites in Kochi selling PC parts as I want a cousin in Kochi to buy the processor and hard disk for me.

Thanks for any assistance!

Forget about clock speed.
C2D all the way.

Hi mjp1618 .... see that you are from Kochi. Would you by chance know of some shops that have their prices online places?

One other thing ... I've read that C2D has one model E6300 or something to that extent ... its got 1X2MB cache, but the speed is supposedly 2.13ghz approx. Would that effectively be faster than the 3Ghz of the regular P4? E6600 is priced a lil above my budget and hence I thought of the Pentium D, the Pentium D has 2x2MB cache and the 3Ghz is almost half the price of the E6600.

Can some one also tell me if the Pentium D and the C2D can use the 945 MoBo?

Thanks once again!

Get the E6300, it's just 10k and faster than all previous Intel processors... if you're on a budget, you can get basic C2D motherboard for about 3.5k (ASRock 775TWINS is one of them).
