CPU/Mobo Intel Q9550 vs AMD Phenom II x4 955be

The Phenom II 955 BE is made to compete with the Q9550. But the thing is that the Phenom II 955 BE @ 3.2GHz matches the Q9550 @ 2.83GHz. Both are over-clock able, but I would say that at the same clock on both, say 3.5GHz, the Q9550 will probably beat the Phenom II.

Most the E0 stepping Q9550's can go above 4GHz on air cooling for 24/7 use. I have seen Phenom II at 4Ghz, but not sure how they will fare above 4GHz for 24/7 use.

As for cost, both are in the same price range, but the difference comes in the price of the motherboards. Intel motherboards can be pretty darn costly. For the price of a upper mid range Intel board, one can get a high end AMD board.

SO there, you can take your pick from either of the two.
