Intel's CPU lineup has already gone through a number of changes, but things have hardly come to a close, especially now that new information has arisen about the price scheme of seven Sandy Bridge units.

Some new information regarding Intel's or AMD's central processing and accelerated processing units seems to come out daily.

Just recently, the prices of Intel's Sandy Bridge-E CPUs were discovered, as was the fact that they might get shipped without coolers.

Now, a new report has been made, one that deals with things closer to home, specifically the Sandy Bridge line of chips currently out and about.

According to the folks at CPU World, several models will become cheaper (unlike Ultrabook units) starting at some point or other during the third quarter of the ongoing year (2011).

Three of them will only see their lower tags come in October, while the other four will be more inexpensive as early as next month (September).

One dual-core model (the 2.7 GHz Core i5-2390T with 3 MB L3 cache) will get its own in September, dropping from $195 to $184. The same thing will happen to the similarly-priced quad-core i5-2400S (6 MB cache, 2.5 GHz).

The Core i5-2405S, 2500S, 2500T and 2600S, quad-cores with 6 MB cache and speeds of 2.5 GHz, 2.7 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 2.8 GHz (the last one has 8 threads instead of 4) will end up at $201, $205, $205 and $294, respectively (their current tags are of $205, $216, $216 and $306).

As for the remaining three (set for October price cut), they are all dual-core units with 3 MB of cache.

The Core i3-2120 has 4 threads and a clock of 3.3 GHz (will drop from $138 to $117), while the Pentium G630 and G850 (2.8 GHz and 2.9 GHz chips) have 2 threads each and will sell for $64 and $75, respectively (they are at $75 and $86).

Inconsequential price drop really. Wont affect retail pricing much.

True... When Asus P8P67 Pro was selling for 199$ on newegg here it was selling for Rs.12500 and now when Asus P8Z68-V Pro is selling for 199$ on newegg indian dealers are still selling it for Rs.14000 :(

Bulldozer is vapourware.

What will happen is that the i3 2120 will replace the i3 2100 in my country. The cheaper option will just disappear from the stores like it was never there in the first place.

Well, I dont think bull dozer is going to be vapourware.

But for the price to drop here will take some time, maybe 9~12 months!

Is a thread needed for this! Its just the regular cycle that happens every quater.

For eg., the i3-2120 now costs the same as the i3-2100. The i3-2100 price wont reduce to $100. It will simply be EOLed. Whereas a newer i3-2130 or i3-2140 will cost $138.

Same in case of Pentium The G630 will now cost the same as G620 ($64) and the G620 will be EOLed.

This is happening for years with both Intel and AMD.

For eg., initially the AthlonII X4 620 costed ~5k. Now the AthlonII X4 645 costs that much. So a bump of ~0.5GHz for the same pricing in a year and half.

The only real drops are for eg., like the 955BE which costs 5.5k and used to costs ~10k+!! Never did a PhenomII X4 costed <6k before. That is real price drop.

^^Yes... People who are looking to build an sb rig can delay their purchase a bit and can buy a much better processor by spending the same amount of money... Who wouldn't like to buy a much better performing proccy by spending the same amount of money? ;) And yes you are right about intel's and amd's strategy... They simply release a higher clocked model each quarter to increase their processor sales and make people to upgrade their rigs...

And it is so very easy with these chips. They don't even have to make anything new. Take the old chip, bump up the frequency and you have a new processor.
