Hi..

So I am going to buy a 1 TB internal hdd for desktop..

Which one should i go for seagate or WD ???????????

Budget - 3.5k max.

I have been using wd green 1tb for a year now and its running absolutely fine..

But recently i read a lot of complaints against WD.. so confused now..

PLzzz suggest the exact model that i should buy..

TIA.

U should look for WD or Samsung 1TB HDD.

Seagate got bad RMA policy.

Seagate not replace any HDD with bad sectors but they just repair.

My Seagate 500GB HDD went for RMA on 28th September but still no news.....:(

I COMPLETELY Disagree to an extent.

RMA depends on which city you are in. You're in Kolkata .. he's in mumbai/Thane. BIG Difference.

in fact over here in mumbai... WD's RMA is pathetic! The replacement unit is shipped from Delhi & you're looking at a minimum waiting of 3 weeks to get a drive RMA'd. They dont even give you a tracking number or an update on the status.

Seagate is just over 1 week. Their RMA centre is located @ Accel Frontline in Tardeo. I've had 2 drives RMA'd with Seagate and neither of them took more than a week to come back. They not only sms you the status of your drive and you can check it online as well but they also send you an update when your replacement is ready

WD on the other hand didnt take anything less than 3 weeks for a replacement.

Quality wise - Both Seagate and WD have lost their reliability that was at higher levels in the past. In the race to out do each other, i feel that to some extent they've compromised big time on their reliability.

I've had a new 500GB die with WD as well as a 1TB with Seagate that developed bad sectors in just over 5months of use.

Another factor you could consider is that WD usually replace the model you own with a new (atleast there's no certified refurbished label) drive. Seagate replace your drive with a certified repaired hard disk.

Other than these... you could narrow down your search for a drive based on the specs and the money you wanna pay.

Just keep the RMA/Quality/Reliability factors in mind.

Good luck!

Seagate is your only option. Me including lots of others have horror stories to tell for WD. And try,,,just try if you can get thru their helpline numbers...you will complain only if you get thru them right? That alone should help you decide your options.
