what is the warranty of Internal and external hard drives of WD and seagate?

i heard external ones have higher warranty than internal,is it right?

also if i buy an external one then can i take it out from its enclosure and use it in another casing or as Internal drive without any issues?(but i guess taking it out of enclosure would make the warranty invalid)
because i remember reading somewhere that external ones have some kind of encryption and can be used with their original USB casing only?

All wd and seagate external have 3yrs warranty

Wd blue green and seagate internal have 2yrs warranty

Only wd black has 5yrs warranty

Check before purchasing from dealer.Sometimes they may sell RMAED and may not get full warranty

i guess i will go for WD green 3TB internal,i will go on monday to nehru place.
if there is anything i should check/confirm before buying then please let me know.

thanks for all your help.

Older systems may have a limitation to address the entire capacity as 3 TB - it may show up as two different volumes under disk management, one 2.2 TB volume and the other 800 GB. You will have to format the drive with GPT.

Besides, you may not be able to use this drive as your boot drive unless your motherboard supports UEFI. Almost all present gen. motherboards do, the older ones (circa 2010 and before) do not. So keep this in mind.

What motherboard and OS do you use?

i will not be using this as a boot drive.it will be just a data backup drive which will be used once or twice in a month to backup important data from my main laptop drive.
it will be connected to my laptop using a USB casing (i already have a local USB casing which supports my 1.5TB just fine but i am planning to buy an e-sata casing like the one from transcend)

OS:windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
laptop is sony,3 years old.
motherboard: American megatrends (?????)

everthing fine for go ahead?

Sorry for the late response. I hope it shouldn't be a problem. I haven't used a 3 TB drive yet so I do not know the finer details. In case you get a 3 TB drive, do let us know how it pans out.

yeah i was also expecting no problem with 3TB but after doing a lot of googling i learned a lot of users having trouble with 3TB and external casing and in some cases even when they connected it internally using sata.some get only 736GB and some 2TB out of 3TB but some whole 3TB.

with no one being sure , i think i would just take the plunge and will buy a 3TB soon...will post the results how it works out with various casings i have.

@Gannu are you a mod? if yes then can you please edit/delete the imagevenue URL part from my previous post.
