Hi friends i am bit confused in choosing a 500gb internal HDD can`t decide with whome to go with.
Western digital or Seagate both rates are under 2.5k

thanks in advance.

AFAIK the WD green drives are even failing than the seagate drives. Failure rate is identical on both the drives. But when it comes to performance i bet you that seagate will beat WD any day...

^ source please ? I haven't seen any mass failure of the WD drives like the Seagate .11 series. Also WD provides door to door replacement services ,which seagate doesn't. If the Accell frontline service center isn't near your place then running around for the RMA is a pain :P

@Migican ,Get the WD 500GB AAKS or the Seagate 7200.12 You won't go wrong with any of them. The new 0.12 is fast and and reliable as well.Only thing you will be losing is door to door warranty offered by Western Digital.

As for me ,after my 500 GB ST3500320AS (7200.11) failed twice in last 5-6 months and I had a hard time RMAing it , I sold off all my Seagate drives and got WD. I would think 100 times before getting another Seagate drive now. :|

^^^Rite even my bro have 3x500GB HDD......each of them keeps failing in 5-6mnths. And RMAing takes 1mnth or so. Now he build a strict no for SEAGATE. :)

Is Seagate 7200.11 500GB even available in the market... I think only 7200.12 500GB is which is quite good... Its fast, hardly heats up & whisper quite...

But then no D2D service like WD... & people are still paranoid with their 7200.11 fiasco..

if u start a seagate thread in market section, i wont be surprised :ohyeah:

WD 6400AAKS Blue - 640GB for 3-3.2K is an awesome deal provided its available. Else get the Seagate 500GB 7200.12 for around 2.4k.

who meant the .11 drives. Are these available in the market now ?. Def. no. Then how can the .11 drives be in question. I meant only the .12 drives and not the .11 ones..

you ve already made a decision, but would just like to make a point here.

Seagate really shot themselves in the foot with the .11 series failing miserably. i wonder how long will it be before they regain people's confidence. But they sure have made the right move with the .12 series. I bought one and can vouch for its reliability.
And one more thing, before this one i was a WD user :bleh:
