Which companies in India provide this?I would be in Dubai for quite some time and I am in need of a HDD with International warranty.WD, Seagate, Verbatim, Transcend all provide 3-5 years WITHIN India?Which ones proviode a global warranty, so that it's not a problem in Dubai?

Hi Raptor

WD provides you with the option of transferring your warranty to anywhere in the world.

I bought a WD 500GB HDD from US, and it was ready for RMA within 4 months. I called up the WD helpline here in India and they readily transferred my warranty from US region to India. I got my HDD replaced without any hassles.

Ah.. thats good to know. But I have now decided to go with Seagate Freeagent.Any idea about Seagate's warranty?

Wat about other companies like Transcend, Verbatim and Buffalo?

AFAIK Seagate does offer any such warranty transfer. I have no clue about Transcend, Verbatim or Buffalo, as i have never used their products.

Also, the thing to remember is, that WD offers door-to-door RMA services. The courier guy will collect the HDD from you, and also deliver the replacement piece. With Seagate, you have to personally go to their service center and claim your warranty.

AFAIK only 1 or 2 companies provide international / transfer of warranty. Most of them dont on 2.5" external HDDs. I recently bought a Hitachi 2.5" external HDD in Shanghai and asked whether there is any international warranty...but the answer was -ve inspite of the HDD having 3 years local warranty. There were other HDDs also like Verbatim, WD, Seagate etc but the shop keeper (and other ones too) denied that there is any international warranty.

i am not sure if this make sense, but i entered the warranty details of a recently purchased 500 gb freeagent seagate go on the warranty site with country as US and tried to check the status of it.

It showed me the correct date and also gave me the option for advanced rma. tried in random with a few other countries including uae, all showed valid.

so i guess seagate's case too, international warranty should work.

though please note that nowdays freeagent drive come with both 2 year and 5 year warranty. the 2 year warranty models are slightly cheaper than the 5 year warranty hdds. i did my test with a 5 year warranty waala disk

I sure hope this would hold good for all other consumers as well.:)

if Seagate also allows us to transfer the warranty or claim it internationally then it really will be very good.

That is because i recently purchased Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1TB. i wanted to try some other company than WD.

lets hope things are as smooth with Seagate!

Finally took the plunge and bought the Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB at S.P road.Cost me 5.2K. Comes with 5 years of warranty.Even the dealers dont have much idea about International warranty(go figure!).

I had to create a support case at Seagate's website to ask if my product has international warranty. The page kinda got stuck..lol. Now I dunno if it reached them or not.

Does someone have a direct email to the support where I can leave them a query?
