internet blues

Apprentice
hi,

i am kkool living in mumbai using a hathway connection. i am using a 256k unlimited pacjage, now since the past 2 weeks, i am facing a strange problem which i am unble to make heads nor tails off. i receive internet frm hathway directly and they provide me using the cyberoam 24 online client. now the problem is that, whenever i am online and doing some activity like browsing or downloading, the net works fine without any problems. the real problem occurs, when i leave the system idle, which is without any internet activity like browsing or downloading, the net goes off, at this time i am unable to ping hathways gateway of 172.16.0.1 at all. now if i click on local area connection and click on repair, the pings start comming and the net starts.

i have tried calling their technician over 4 times and all 4 times they have told me therez something wrong with my lan card. my lan card is onboard, hathways engineer did come and install the 24 cyberoam client frm the server again, which he said would stop the problem but it still occurs.

my system congig is as follows:

mobo: KOB P4M266a-NDMx mercury board
cpu :1.7ghz celeron
ram : 512mbddr@333mhz
o/s windows xp sp2 with kaspersky antivirus 5.0.388 and NO FIREWALL.

hi,

please try installing windows xp again. if this doesnot solve the issue then i guess u need to install a pci lan crad and chk it out, may solve the issue for u.

hi,

thanks for replying vishalk, but i tried everything u mentioned and still i am facing the same. i have also installed a pci lan card and disabled the onboard card but still facing the same, is it my isp doing this??

Even I am a Hathway user. But I do not have to use the Cyberoam client. I just start FF and begin browsing.

Go to Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection. Right click on it and go to Properties. You will find your network adapter mentioned in 'Connect Using'. Click on 'Configure' besides it and then click on 'power management'. Uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device'.

See if this solves your problem.
