Internet download manager - issue :(

hello friends,

Have been having this issue with IDM (any version) for almost 2 yrs. The issue is when a file is downloaded via IDM, intially though it starts with an average transfer speed of 30 Kb/s, gradually the speed drops to 25, 20, 10,5 and finally after sometime reaches 0 kb/s and the file stops here partly downloaded and then i have to stop and resume it . Have been experience this problem for quite a long time (nearly 2 yrs). But i think it was working fine when i had 128Kb/s connection. The issue started when i upgraded to 256Kb/s (but m not very sure on this).

This issue arises most of the times. Tried all the settings in IDM but no use. Only on some occassions (very rare) i am able to download a file without my intervention. And that too this becomes a big headache when the file size is large (for example nvidia drivers).
So nowadays i prefer the default download system of IE. This works fine on all servers and on all times. Though IE's download system has resume feature, it lacks queue processing.

Today ive tried download accelerator plus but its very hefty and not light weight as IDM. AFAIK IDM is the lightest of all download managers. And also DAP comes with a lot of crap and makes my system slow. And there is no minmize to tray feature in DAP (i am unable to get DAP premium).

I am in Airtel 512kb/s plan. Guys could any of you please help me sort out this issue.

Try Free Download Manager and report back if the problem persists....if so, definitely the culprit will be ur ISP/OS rather than download manager softwares.

Have u ever reinstalled ur OS in the last couple years during which the problem had persisted?

try DAP, if the problem persist then the root cause may be with your ISP.

Did you try reinstalling IDM? I have been using it for sometime but there is no problem.

Ya try a fresh install of your os.this slowing might be due to malware installed on your system.
Are you downloading your files from rapidshare?
If not try downloading some files from hosting sites like megashares or megaupload, mediafire etc which provide resume support. Disconnect the download and try resuming it again. Check for your speeds.
Mine had a similar issue on my old comp found it was improper earthing which would give the earthing current to my modem which until i disconnect would stop data transfer.
Check for all cases and report back.

This is most likely due to your ISP settings.

Which OS do you use?

As RedBull suggested FDM (Free Download Manager) an opensource free application is very good.

have re-installed my OS / formatted my hdds (includes new hdds also) more than a dozen times these years. I am 100% sure this has nothing to do with malware or spyware. Because the issue persists in xp as well as 7 and even in vista.

today i checked dap 9. But it comes with a lot of crapware (like browers, etc). UI is not as simple as IDM. Tried downloading mp3 songs from a site via DAP. But it downloaded the 1st file properly and its not able to download the other files. The download failed and stated that it stopped due to an unknown error. I am pretty sure there is no issue with that site or its server. Anyway will try downloading from other sites like nvidia, intel, etc and report back..

If you're not using Rapidshare Premium, I would totally recommend Flashget, it has to be the best download manager I have used till date. I would still be using it only if the compatibility with RS premium was upto the mark.

It is by far the best alternative to IDM. I would also recommend you start using Firefox and use the Flashgot plugin, which will be your best combination for downloading anything off any website, embedded or not.

Also flashget is not at all a bloatware, doesn't come with any crap combined in it, you can always disable the recommendations et al.

You can download flashget from here:- Best Download Manager - FlashGet

I've used it for a very very long time, probably more than the past 8 to 9 years and its been flawless (apart from RS ofcourse). Most of all, its free!
