i have corsair vx450, running on apc 500va ups ( i also have a samsung 2033, 2 external hdds, a dell router, a wireless dell router, macbook and 2.1 creative speakers running).............

i need to buy a inverter that will run my system, an lcd, couple of fans and lights........

already tested my system along with the ups on a APC home appliances and lightening ups 800va (hi series--i think this is the model number HI800SQ), during a power failure pc was working fine but my ups was giving out a constant click sound as if it was switching all the time ..... what do u guys recommend......

as i see it the ups is constantly switching on and off due to the square wave, is that dangerous....

If i'm not wrong, that model of inverter from APC is square wave. Try and get a pure sine wave inverter. I'm running my system on Luminous pure sine wave 800VA inverter, runs fine but sometimes my HP ups ( which is useless ) makes click sound, when too many things like TV as well as lights and fans are turned on, this is after I installed my HD 4850 which uses plenty of power. When running only the system, there's no problem. Also when I was using onboard Gfx, even with few fans, lights and TV, there was no problem running the system.

EDIT : Seeing your signature rig, if you want a bit of a headroom, it's better to go for a 1KVA inverter if you can afford, however 800VA would just be fine for only the system and 1 fan and light, but not along with TV. APC has a 2 battery model, pure sine wave for about 24k or something. Else you might get 1KVA for under 20k from other's like Luminous and Sukam.

Even Microtek has pure sinewave inverters and the unit alone cost 8.5K for 1.5kva output. Batteries we need to buy separately and we have the option to choose either a 12volt or a 24volt model....

but i could not find any reviews of it. Not sure whether it meets the expectation

can i use APC BI1000I with only one Exide battery (or Amaron), i mean it just halves the back up time right, when compared to the 2 batteries.

also can some one tell me the backup time one battery can provide on full load with BI1000i?

do i have better options with any other reliable brands?

I'm not sure but I think you cannot use it with one battery. It's a 24V model, and hence 12+12V 2 batteries are required. APC has sinewave inverters as 24V models only as far as I know. So if you go for APC sinewave, it has to be 2 batteries.

On the other hand, you can get 1 battery 12V models from Luminous, Sukam etc.

You normally will not use full power from a 1KVA, so easily about 4-5hrs in case of APC inverter, with PC, TV as well as other misc things like few fans and lights.

oh ok. hmmm so will go with APC 1000va looks like thats the best option.

i am not so confident about luminous and sukam (quite irritated with the luminous guy as he did not turn up for the demo and installation two weeks ago)
