There are many paid services to ge the Icloud removed, Also there is a way if u don't want to spend money if u remember your icloud ID and have the invoice call Apple India and they'll help u out.

not yet. co-ordinating with the original buyer first right now. also being helped by @cisco_tech.

prob is neither me nor the original buyer (am the second buyer) have the invoice in possession. the ipad though is quite old. will be writing to apple explaining to them the situation and with as much details as possible and requesting them for assistance.
 
Is this carrier locked or iCloud Activation locked ?
If carrier locked, device can be unlocked easily. But if it is iCloud Activation locked, then it is a pretty tough process to unlock. Most of the online services that promise to remove activation locks are a scam. Activation lock is directly from Apple's servers. That is a featuredesigned to prevent anyone else from using the device if it's ever lost or stolen. Only way to unlock is to contact the owner and get the Apple ID and password of the account.
