I currently have a pixel 8 pro and my dad wants a new phone. He loved my p8p so he told me that he'll get me an iPhone 15 pro or a pixel 9 and take my phone in exchange. The problem is Ive heard VERY mixed opinions about the battery life of the 15 pro, Is it really that bad now after 1+ years of software updates? or should I just get the pixel 9 and sacrifice the telephoto lens.
Im also leaning towards the iphone because of the form factor, would love to have a smaller more manageable phone. Wouldve definitely gotten the p9p (6.3 inch) if it wasn't so expensive :(

The Pixel 9 would be a downgrade from the Pixel 8 Pro, especially in the camera department, as you'd lose the telephoto lens. Additionally, the Tensor G4 doesn't offer a significant improvement over the G3.

If I were you, I’d go for the iPhone 15 Pro, assuming you're okay switching from Android to iOS. The iPhone 16 Pro doesn’t bring any major upgrades, so the 15 Pro is almost 90% of what 16 Pro provides. As for battery life, the concerns I’ve seen are mostly related to battery health deteriorating over time, not necessarily shorter battery life.

My two cents: I used to be obsessed with battery life and keeping it at maximum capacity, but the hassle of doing so ended up being more annoying than just enjoying my phone. Now, I charge it when I can, leave it on the charging stand at night, and it’s been great. Apple states that iPhone 15 batteries are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity after 1000 full charge cycles. Even with daily charging, that’s about 2.7 years. You will be fine.
