A lot of people have been seeing reduced battery life after upgrading their 2G iPhones to the new 3.0 firmware. My 2G used to last for 2 days without charging on 2.2.x, but after upgrading to 3.0 wouldn't last for more than 8 hours. I saw a lot of posts on the net connecting this to a broken Push notification feature in the 3.0 firmware for hacktivated 2G iPhones. After disabling Push Notifications on Saturday, my phone lasted without charging it till today evening! Back to normal! And it wasn't even fully charged on Saturday when I disabled Push Notifications.
Another problem that I started facing after upgrading to 3.0 was people being unable to reach me at times. Wouldn't happen all the time, but sometimes when anyone tried calling me they'd get the message that my cell was out of coverage. This was even when I was in an area with full signal strength. Even messages would get delivered to me late. But now, even this problem is gone.
All you need to do is turn of Push Notifications in the Settings menu. You will only see the Push Notification feature if you install an app that supports it. I installed AIM. Now, the battery is back to normal; I get all my calls & messages; and the iPhone doesn't heat up or anything! :hap2:
