I sync'ed outlook 2007 for contacts & calendar items with the iphone.. now i does not show the name of the incoming caller.. just the country code +91 xxxxxxxxxxxx . The only way to circumvent this is to add that person manually in the contacts app on the iphone itself....What am i doin wrong here? help

You need to save the contacts number with the international and national code added to it

for eg : 91 - 22 - 24404444 if you are from Mumbai (else add your area code insted of 22)

hey thanks for the quick reply.. now i have hundreds of contacts in outlook... any idea how i could do this on a mass scale????

Just check the contacts in iphone and see whether the name of the contact is shown in some other field.
If it is, does the sync app. allow field mapping between outlook and iphone?

ok here's how to do it if you've jailbroken your iphone ...

The following are the steps to get your caller id back into working condition if you just pwned your iPhone to the latest 2.0 FW. This was also called the AppSupport Patch… Well actually its still called the same, only Apple modified the way they were doing it and the location.

CAUTION: If you do not know what OpenSSH, WinSCP are, then you should stop right now.

Step 1: Install OpenSSH from Cydia (found easily in featured apps)

Step 2: Restart iPhone

Step 3: Use winscp to connect to the iPhone via your IP address Username:root Password: alpine

Step 4: Download this file RapidShare: Easy Filehosting and extract it to your desktop

Step 5: Navigate to the following folders on your iPhone using WinSCP or FUGU and replace the following files:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.framework/PhoneNumberTemplates.plist

/System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/PhoneFormats/UIPhoneFormats.plist
with files from ZIP

Step 6: Restart iPhone

Step 7: Enjoy!

better still, just export your outlook contacts in Excel

append a +91 to all numbers that already don't have one

(just record a macro to do it en-masse for all)

import and replace back into outlook, then run a sync (make sure to select replace contacts on my phone option in iTunes info sync tab)

LOL... indeed the Jesus-Phone makes u work for it... BTW guys sorry for jumping the gun.... the iphone displays names correctly.... somehow only one friend's number used to appear when he used to call.... i think its got to do with the fact that on the contacts app i had his numbers as mobile:xxxxx and other(landline):xxxxxx.... the moment i chnged the title to "home" from "other" the problem seems to have vanished.... :D

Looking at twisted_mind's reply, i again say that the problem is most probably because of the field mapping in contacts.
You did not reply to my suggestion above.

Is this issue happening in phones bought from India itself? or was the phone bought from some other country?

I do know that but, all iphones have country specific model no's - its probably just a naming convention but it might also be some minor changes in the way the way software is implemented on the phones.
