Hi guys,

I am using Nokia N79 for the past 4 months but recently got to see my friend's Iphone 2g and was amazed to see its overall performance. I have used Nokia 5800 but iphone was simply amazing. Now I am thinking to upgrade to Iphone 3GS to be launched by airtel soon so want to know whether it will be worth it as an upgrade as compared to my nokia n79 overall?? I am looking to pay the whole amount itself or via EMI if they are offered like it happened earlier with 2g so please advice what all I can expect and what all could be deal breakers and overall whether it's worth it or not??

Thanks in advance for help.....:hap2:

In terms of speed, UI ,smooth interface ,music playback , video quality ,applications ,games and fun factor -the Iphone 3GS is a definite upgrade compared to the N79. If you liked the 2G , I am sure you will fall in love with the 3GS.

The only question is do you feel the price tag is worth it..? It will most probably retail above 30k.

What to do?? Since I have used Iphone 2G of my friend I can understand why its simply superb.............Can u suggest something better than Iphone 3GS?? Smooth, speedy, music & video quality, apple store with so many apps.....Now iphone can compete vid symbian............

Iphone 3gs is worth a upgrade if you get a HTC HD2 or nexus one or any other smart phone you will get bored and will be going for a change in a very less period ...Iphone is really a classy phone with it's max apps on Apple store and apple also has it standard.

Google nexus one , but it also got it's cons and pro's you have to decide what fits you better

well well well .. Iphone is simply best in what it bears in it .. its simply hard to get it off your hands .. and .. it will be a suitable upgrade .. 3GS is certainl the best of IPHONES till now .. and has got some good reviews expect a few lackings .. and the protest of its high pricing .. but believe me or not .. this thing will really make you move along with its audio quality .. make you stick to a position while watching videos .. and the games are simply amazing .. ive a 3G of my own.. and .. ive so far not got hold of any phone better than that .. the only problem comes with the new softwares .. battery life and weight .. the battery life of my 3G is not good .. and ive heard apple have worked on this in the 3GS .. and for alternative .. you have G1 .. which is making some noise .. and X10(SE) .. you can look to these phones also ..

@meet6600, if you really liked the UI and features of iphone 2G, I think you can definitely go for 3GS but the problem is the price and before deciding, do try other phones like HTC HD2, Google Nexus One, HTC Hero. coz these phones provide even better features/experience for lesser price.

Umm. i guess Nexus and HD2 are priced somewhat close to 3Gs .. hero maybe lesser .. but .. none have really met what iphone offers .. have they ?

Yes they have...provided you are ready to look beyond those shiny little icons! Because believe it or not...there are browsers out there, better keyboards, better music applications, better P2P clients, multitasking, widgets but provided your device manufacturer allows them. Unfortunately Steve Jobs doesn't. This fruit logo company is too restrictive and the owners of iPods, iPhones and definitely iPad even after paying from their butt still don't own their devices!!!

If this sounds like a rant then probably it is.

^ arguably you're right .. but i still stick to my point .. none can beat the UI experience that an Iphone offers ..

That's the point............I used my frendz Iphone 2g and for a change I liked it very much!!! andriod is still developing though there are some very gud handsets around while windows phone are something i don't like..........so the option is nokia which has become really boring by now.........and they r yet to match the days when there were no firmware problems!!! with every new firmware there are pros and cons and new bugs........and i don't feel my n79 has 369 mhz speed until i switch off cool theme effects........but iphone it was just amazing........i do want something gud from nokia but its too much now to wait..........SE is sleeping while motorola's handests are yet to come to india......samsung's battery performance is nt gud for high end phones from various reviews.........dat leaves Apple with iPhone something each manufacturere is trying hard to compete with............wotsay??:eek:hyeah:

you should really give SenseUI based phones a try. They are much better. you might be amazed by iphone's home screens but SenseUI is much better overall and those phones offer lot more features and functionality.

Wait for HTC Desire and try out HD2 and Nexus One. Believe it or not, the excitement over UI of iphone lasts till you have nothing more to explore where as with HD2, you have something new to try everytime you visit XDA forums. That my friend is true mobile UI experience.

I went for a lookout last week.
iphone 3gs will cost you around 32_34k
N1 around 30_33k
HD2 very difficult to get at present, all dealers are saying that it is out of stock,at least in Kolkata.I could find only a single dealer who is having it, and it costs 35.5k.Grey market availability is also not good at all,few are ready to sell for 32k,not a penny less.

Well .. as a matter of fact .. iphones also do not provide a good battery life .. i myself have an Iphone 3G .. and i am not satisfied with the battery life of my phone .. but the rest are ofcourse the best in its class ..!!:clap::hap2:

I got an iPhone 3G, the battery life is satisfactory to me. It will drain out faster than usual if you have WiFi switched on the whole day OR under constant use of GPS.

Btw, I love the phone, its effing incredible and I tried out my brother's 3GS, its even better. BUT given that the 3GS has just recently launched and Apple already has another iPhone in the pipeline, the question now is, is it the right time to buy the 3GS?

I'd recommend the phone with my eyes closed though, there is SO MUCH you can do with this phone, you'll never get bored and the screen is just so beautiful and most of all, the capacitive touch of the iPhone is simply unbeatable.

If you consider the official channels, 4G won't be available in India maybe till 6months after it's official global release date. So, it's worthy to go for 3GS in India.

unofficial channels, there is no idea when 4G is gonna come out. maybe two or three months from now? Get a 3GS now, sell if off after release of 4G (iphone has pretty good resale value)

introduction of 4th gen will definitely have some impact on pricing of 3GS in India. Apple is dumping the old 3GS' in india.

Its like we watch 24/LOST after a year its aired in US. But some nerds download them as they are aired in US and watch them in India the very next day.

Why man ? Why ? Why do we get the things late..

and Could someone tell me where the hell is 3G in India..

Apple doesn't give a rat's a$s to India; pity we still drool over it .

Exactly,it is so much overrated. As I am using it from time to time (borrowed from someone else),I am gradually realizing how pathetic it is,it is a good pmp but a lousy phone.

Multitasking will be there in iPhone 4.0 and iPhone 3gs can be upgraded to it

if you jailbroke your iPhone.. iPhone becomes a phone above all.. you can hardly think of a feature it lacks after jailbreaking it..

Yxflash a app for iPhone allows you to watch 1080P videos on 3gs.. multifl0w alows the multitasking.. iBluenova for bluetooth file transfer..

3gs is one of the best iPhone get it.. don't wait for the 4g as grey market pricing will cost a bomb atleast for a year..

and when you can upgrade to 4.0 then there should be no waiting.. :)

N79 is like a kid in terms of usability in front of iPhone
