iPhone 4 4.1 1004 Error while restoring. no imei, no wifi, no bluetooth HELPPPPP :(

pls help guys, i recently got two phones 32gb and 16gb Factory unlocked ones...
tried restoring the phone, it was working properly before that, dunno why the heck did i try to restore it, then restore gave error 1004 at the end...
iphone showed connect to itunes for activation
by this time, it shows searching in the background near network bars... even if i dont have the sim inside the phone, then when i start activation procedure, then iphone doesnt recognize sim and itunes tells to insert sim card while still showing searching in background...
bypassed the activation screen using limera1n hacktivation, but no use phone still shows searching, hone info shows
IMEI unknown
ICCID Unknown
Bluetooth icon and Wifi icon has become grey...
tried restoring in DFU mode too, but same story, even tried different systems for restoring, but no use...
someone pls help me out

Did you modify your hosts file?

Try a hard reset by pressing power and home button for 10 seconds until the Apple logo reappears.

tried hard reset, DFU mode and every damn thing :(....

Ok. Download RecBoot and choose the option Exit Recovery Mode. Should be fine after that.

kicked device out of recovery and then when i come out of the lock screen then checked the settings and then no info on the above wifi, bluetooth addresses etc..

then on coming to the home screen, gives the message that

iPhone cannot make or receive calls, restore using itunes or contact apple.com/support..

Try the restore again. Make sure you have latest version of iTunes and correct iOS 4.1 "iPhone3,1_4.1_8B117_Restore" firmware file.

If you encounter the 1004 error again, you need to check your Hosts file. On Windows, its located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\.

Open the file in Notepad(run as admin).

If the Hosts file is set to a ten digit number followed by gs.apple.com, then that's your problem. Remove the line entirely or put a # at the beginning of it to comment it out. Save the file. Reboot and you're good to go.

had already checked that, hosts file is fine.. if there was a problem in the hosts file in my PC, then on my laptop too i encountered the same error where i had never even touched the hosts file and installed itunes for the first time on it..

the firmware file is also the latest one bro... any other thing which i can try?

will try the windows xp thing in a day or two..

the link which you gave, mentions about general restoring process which i already did follow.

after i got the 1004 error, i used tinyumbrella to kick out of recovery, then i got connect to itunes screen fro activation, but then iphone wont activate, SIM is fine, it works like a charm on my other iPhone which my dad is using..

then after hacktivating it, i.e. bypassing the actual activation procedure by running greenpois0n or limera1n, i get a message on the screen i.e.

"iPhone cannot make or receive calls, restore using itunes or contact apple.com/support"

and then when i check the about tab in settings/general, no IMEI, no iccid, no wifi address, no Bluetooth address and whether i have the sim in the phone or not, just get searching in the network area..

:(

the 1004 error which itunes gives is when the phones baseband is not updated, i think my baseband has got corrupt and it needs reflashing/update, eagerly waiting for 4.2 using which i can try restoring to a newer firmware and hope that newer BB gets flashed properly..

When it is factory unlocked how come the base band got $crewed :S

The only place i can think of you getting a solution is register is modmyi and iphone-developers( by XDA folks).GO ahead and post there suggestions will pour in .

Do revert back here if its fixed want to know the solution

^^ yeah thats what was just restoring and Boom!!! no imei and iccid and any network address :(

already posted in iphone-developers.. no solution yet...

now need to find someone in singapore to get it replaced...

:(

I was about to restore good i did not .

Does this mean all the JB iphone 4 get $crewed when restoring ??.

Is there a procedure to follow when restoring a JB iphone 4 ??

no procedure as such, i was one of the very unlucky ones to get my iphone bricked i suppose..

anyways been using the 16GB one which i had got for my Dad since then

ONLY option i see is getting it replaced from Apple, Singapore. :(

^^Dude wait till the 4.2 firmware and then its unlock + jailbreak is released.

You may have some success with those stuff!
