I may summarise or add -
1.AT&T fully paid (no contract) also comes locked but you can unlock it yourself bu full restore through iTunes. Risk free and no addl cost
2. AT&T on contract can be easily unlocked through what they call IMIE unlock as good as factory unlock. Numerous vendors on eBay costing $1+ to $25. Select vendor by number of unlock sales and reputation.
3. Verizon is CMDA. But I am told by friends they supply unlocked iPhones and their version of iPhones work both on GSM and CMDA. My friend's Verizon iPhone works on gsm sim of AT&T and T mobile. So I guess no prob
4. Sprint Cricket etc. Strict no no. Difficult to get their iPhones unlocked and expensive unlock solution even if u get someone to unlock. Risky and best avoided. Not worth the trouble
