Hi folks,

I'm trying to find some alternatives to the stock iphone earphones. Something like Shure or Sennheiser or Klipsch..? any idea how I'd go about it?

I'm thinking that the Apple-branded resellers might have some stuff

are there local stores that stock stuff from these audiophile style companies?

edit: my main concerns with the stock earphones is that they wear out every 2-3 months which is unacceptable for something that costs like 1.8k, besides that they leak sound..

20K is a grand budget. But, availability in Delhi? I have no idea.

If you need only the ear phone (without mic), you can even get Custom IEMs and be done with it. There are many universal IEMs that can be easily recommended in the price range (Earsonics SM3, Westone 4, Audio-Technica CK10, JVC FX700, Sony EX-1000), but all of them need importing.

There are others like Sennheiser IE8, Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10, Shure SE535 which have some local presence. If you want one with mic, either TF10vi, IE8i or SE535 with this cable are good choices to check out.

But, many more lower budget options also exist as an upgrade to iPhone stock buds.

get bose if u like to flaunt brands...if u want quality look elsewhere...

+1 to UE t.f 10

Do not spend 20k on your earphones/IEM's no point spending that much without high quality files, using the line-out, amp if needed etc etc! Think the Klipsch Image S4i or the TF10vi would be a great upgrade from stock buds. The Bose ones are nothing great, I've heard the version without the microphone. I'm sure someone here can suggest something that's best for you if you give them your preferences in music.

i listen to mostly hip hop and rock. i'd like one that's generally usable for all genres though.. and yeah i'm thinking the in-line mic is pretty necessary. I have an original 2nd gen iphone but I don't think that should be an issue since the current official earphones still work with it?.. we'll see.

The other reason I don't want to drop 20k out the gate as an uninformed customer is that we can't really return things in India, lol, so even if I found a vendor for something I'd be out of luck if it didn't fit my ear or I didn't like for some other reason. It's not like in the states or whatever where you go back like hey give me back my money

that's why I'm considering the bose, it's about 7k /conveniently available and the online reviews seem pretty content.. but i'd be happy to have suggestions and shop around a bit. I'm not looking for a noise isolating model cause I need to able able to hear traffic, important sounds etc. as I walk around

Don't spend so much unless you really need to and know what you getting for the 20k. Get the Klipsch S4i , for less than 5k and it should serve you well. Also comes with 2 yrs of warranty.

Hi,

I have used S4i as well as Etymotic HF3 (i have recently got HF3s and have been using S4i for past 1.5 years).
Both of them sound Great.
If you are more in bass go for S4i and in case you like your music to be crystal clear try HF3.
Both of them are available in india and they come from very well known brands.
Image S4i will cost you <4K (try ebay, infibeam etc)
HF3 are a lil costly when compared to their price in US and retail close to 7K in India.

Trust me these two are Much better than Bose.

Piyush

thanks folks. I actually saw that the bose didn't fit into the recessed headphone connector on my first gen iphone so I walked into Croma and besides picking up the regular apple earphones (again... alas) I also picked up the sennheiser cx680 for 4k.. the sennheiser isn't that good :(

anyway so my new plan is to wait until i get a new iphone (no recessed groove) after the next version is released and then drop a nice chunk on some earphones.. I'll bump this thread then and keep an eye on the suggestions so far

Sennheiser CXxxx series isn't good at all. I find them really muddy. To be honest, I find the klipsch series also very muddy, I tried the S4i and the rugged edition one along with the X1 Image which were utter rubbish for its price. I tried them at a mall here in SG just a few days back and couldn't find anything good about them except the looks. The Image X1 couldn't even give a decent isolation.

Maybe i'm just spoilt but for the price, I think the head-direct and the brainwavez are far better in imaging than the klipsch. Bose is a joke. ;)

For a budget of 20k I would say try and audition some before you take the plunge, but if you still want to have one right now, get one of the following: Earsonic Sm3, Audio-Technica CK10, Westone 3 or get Livewire Trips customs.

If you must have a mic then get a used TF10vi and get them remolded to customs or get a TF10 and get the vi cable separately.
