iPhone Query

The guy has to be in contract or break the contract by paying X dollars( not sure about this).Its pretty much useless to get a locked iphone you need to wait till eternity to get a unlock.Folks in TE are waiting from months to get unlock.

Lets break up the monies you will be shelling out if you get the phone from AT&T -

Phone on contract - $50-$200 (depending on the phone of course)

Initial agreement for a new 2-year contract - $0

Basic voice plan - $50 (per month; so you'll basically pay up this amount when you buy the phone)

Basic data plan - $25 (per month; so you'll basically pay up this amount when you buy the phone)

Cancellation of contract i.e. Early Termination Fee - $375

That brings your grand total to $500 - $650.

Mind you, this is for a phone locked to AT&T, which means you'll have to bang your head against the wall to get it unlocked in India. Even though it's a simple enough procedure, it is somewhat tedious and has to be followed step by step. Not to forget, it relies hugely on what time your handset was manufactured and what are the initial firmware and baseband versions on it.

The best option is to source a factory unlocked iPhone from Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. Save yourself the hassles of unlocking it, while paying almost the same amount give or take a few $$.

Lastly, keep in mind that I never said anything bad about the iPhone. I have a 3GS myself and love it.

imo if you are looking for a used iphone 3gs there is a decent deal in the members market.dont even consider getting a locked phone.also try to get a factory unlocked.i myself have a software unlocked and i miss the latest features of the most recent updates every time.

I wonder why you are attracted to a locked iphone where as huge choice of android phones+ apps available to you to customize & no lock, instead you can upgrade it with next upgrade down the line.

am just looking for a possibility to buy an iPhone while in members market they sell it almost equivalent to the price of a new one :/ . And I wanted to know the approx price difference if its sourced from outside rather than india . And as the prices are so high this is just a curiosity :P

@phoenix844884
