Apple will upgrade both its iPod mini and iPod shuffle lines of music players, but most likely not at its media event next week, Think Secret has learned. The media event will instead be devoted almost exclusively to the new iTunes-enabled Motorola phone and the company's partnership with Cingular

The new phone will reportedly be available in two capacities, 256MB and 512MB, capable of storing about 70 and 140 songs, respectively

While expected to be separate from next week's phone announcements, updates to Apple's popular iPod mini are also on the horizon. The music player will ditch its hard drive and move entirely to solid state, flash media, a move that sources familiar with the new design say will shave 20 to 25 percent off the size of the unit.

The new iPod mini, which will probably be introduced at Apple Expo Paris on September 20, will be available in three capacities: 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB. The iPod mini will sport dual NAND flash memory chips to achieve those higher capacities, and Apple has already locked in for the rest of the year a majority of Samsung's new 4GB flash modules.

To further the size savings, the new iPod mini will sport a color screen that's slightly smaller than the current version.

At the same time as it revamps the iPod mini, Apple will also introduce a 2GB iPod shuffle and drop pricing on current iPod shuffles

Sources remain conflicted over details of a video iPod. While the grapevine has been abuzz about a video-enabled iPod, fueled by comments from record label executives, it appears that a video iPod may not in fact debut in September after all, although full-size iPods might still see a bump in capacity.

i just dont understand as motorola is a leader in cell fones and comes with excellent technology than nokia, and even moto fones are of their own class, but in india , dealers unnecessarily have contorted the market in favor of nokia, consider if nokia wud have come up with a e398 it wud have started retailing it from 20k and then we wud have seen prices falling like theres no ending to it, i feel as far as this condition of nokia blind fan following doesnt end, we hardly are going to see good moto fones in india, they have got an excellent e-series right now also which is way better than any

ipod fone which apple is now coming up with, if u ever get ur hands on e1000 , wow

its sound is world class,,

and a1000 or a1010 they are the best 3g pda fones in market by moto, but we dont see them india, e1000 is in market for atleast a year now and a1000 more than an year ,

and the best is a1010 , all these fones have an excellent 16 bit display unlike shit nokia of 256k colours ,,,,,,????

i just wish motorola takes india seriously and introduces all their models outta here!!!

Hmm.. strong words
You seem to be a big motorola fan but it isnt just becoz of featuress tht ppl buy nokia. Its also becoz of nokia's simplicity, its quick service and easy availability in comparison to other brands
And u say tht dealers try to sell nokia more but the fact is tht ppl ask for nokia even if a dealer shows nther fone, its not the dealer whos worng but its the consumer. The dealer will sell whtever the consumer wants, its simple economics and the day when the indian consumer becomes more aware u will see more of MOTO and SE fones.

And Till then live WITH it(Nokia)

SAD....., but true, and evn due to ppl not aware of the moto prowess, and its not ppl who ask for nokia, but nokia offers huge incentives to its distributors and the falling prices in mobile market is fully orchestrated by the distris, to maximize the profits, why dont we see the same dip in fone prices in other brands like moto or se, the way nokia prices fall after their release is just non-warranted, i took 6630 for 19k grey market and within 2 months it had come up to 15k same for other fones in each and every nokia camp, and never seen any moto with software problems, but nokias software problems a like 1 in every 3 fones especially their symbian series.

IMO i didn't use any phone above the 6600,i must say that in my prospective, they r the best in terms of usability, reception and UI

I tried many motos like the c300 and what i found was they lack the user friendlieness of nokia 2100/2600/1108 etc.

As a user who beats the crap out of his phone i can vouch for the build quality of the phones too.My 6600 fell a full 20feet from 1 floor on a granite flooring and survived without even a scratch.I have seen many other phones not surviving even a drop from the hand onto the floor(samsung c100,SE t105).

I agree that some of the non nokia phones have equal or even more features etc than a nokia (SE/Samsung) but IMO a SE in the only one that can match the Nokia at present.

Symbian phones hang because they run a real OS like Windows and as with a desktop OS u need to maintain the clutter on the phone properly.Sort ur files into folders, deleting the install files from the c:\nokia\nstalls to keep the phone memory clean.

The more apps, themes u install the more time it takes for the OS to boot and sometimes causes hangups because of some background apps.

There r s/w which make ur phone do things u didn't know ur phone could do (such as s,art movie, control freak etc.
Theese r the stuff that increases a products longetivity and worth.

Theese are the things which made the nokia 6600 the largest selling smart phone.
Since its introduction in October 2003, the Nokia 6600 has become the world's best selling smartphone with shipments to date exceeding 2 million units.

I AGREE THAT THERE R BETTER PHONES OUT THERE BUT IMO NOKIA PHONES R ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT BETTER OF THE PHONES OUT THERE.

Yep. Nokia phones are simply the best when it comes to their 40 series; but unfortunately their 60 series OS begins to suck over a period of time...
The UI becomes slow and laggy after sometime of usage... :(
