Ipod touch apps

I'm getting an ipod touch for a friend. Her main usage will be with respect to ebooks. Are there good free ebook reader apps for the ipod touch? will she be able to sideload already downloaded books to read on the ipod touch?

Secondly, what is the average cost of an app in the app store? Will a debit card suffice to pay for these apps or will a credit card have to be used?

You will have to register your credit card while you register for app store. Most of the application cost between 1-4 dollars.
 
The default iBooks app which is free should suffice, all you got to do is drag and drop the e-books onto iTunes and sync the iPod.
