Ipod touch battery replacement

I have a 3 year old 1G ipod touch that has slowly seen a decrease in battery life and now hardly lasts for 20 minutes. I went to the Imagine store to check the Apple battery replacement program. Not only does it cost a bomb (4300 rupees), but there was a small dent on the ipod which they said disqualified it and I would need to go for some damage protection program which costs 9000 rupees

Looking at the ifixit teardowns, it does seem like a very difficult to do repair. Even when I contacted irepair.in, they said that they are not sure if they do it.

Is anyone aware of a reliable repair service in Bangalore that can replace the battery for me?

Looks like the total cost of it will give you a new Ipod Touch 4G instead.

Yeah, but I'm hoping that I can get someone to replace it for 1-1.5 K. While it is far too slow by modern standards, it still makes for a good gaming device to give to children.
