Is AMD FX 6-Core Black Edition FX-6100 > Core i5?

I am getting 3 months used FX 6100 around Rs 5500

Planning to upgrade my 2 years old Athlon X2 250 proccy.
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
Radeon HD 7700 Series (Gigabyte)

Another AMD Vs Intel battle thread!
No offence OP, provided you put in more options of what is the usage of your system going to be; there is absolutely no point in asking that question.
Put in some more info; like what do you intend to use your upgrade setup for.......! And then you will get a better reply from fellow members!

even i3 beats amd in gaming!!
check anandtech bench

i3 - architecture
amd - brand
What are you talking about?
Looking at anadtech's i3 3220 vs AMD FX 6300, we see benchmarks for only 2 games - Skyrim & Diablo 3. In both the games, the 6300 performs marginally better than i3.
Other than that, i3 performs better with single threaded apps while AMD does better with multi threaded apps.
Both are priced in 7-7.5k range.

yes it is unfair but all that matters to us is performance vs pricing.
Nevertheless, employing more cores takes its toll in the power consumption section.
Currently, Intel is a much better chipmaker than AMD. Intel knows that and therefore prices its products much higher than AMD.
AMD in turn offers cheap VFM chips for users with non critical needs.

Its a good price for a hardly used product, cos a new one costs around 6.8k if you can find a new one.
Check the compatibility of your motherboard here depending on what revision you have. Mostly the processor is very much compatible.
As you have not mentioned your budget anywhere, i'm assuming its the minimum!
Add an extra stick of memory just in case, if you have only 2GB. increase to either 4GB or 8GB, depending upon what your budget permits.

As @phunguus has pointed out already Intel has an edge over AMD depending on your application. To suit your need an Intel will be a better option, but the cost would escalate cos a intel 3220 + Gigabyte B75 board will set you back by 12K - 13K. Even having a Intel G2010 + B75 motherboard + your current graphics card 7770 is also no underdog. Though you cant play your games in full HD.

But then decide wisely cos in a few days the price of computer parts are going to increase as $ just touched 60.
If your not looking for a major overhaul get the AMD 6100 !
