With Google giving an all inclusive 2TB option with Gemini Pro subscription in less than 2K/month. And with Apple intelligence lacking any intelligence. Was wondering if migrating to Google Drive from iCloud a good option. I primarily use it for photos backup.

Has anyone used google drive on iPhone instead of iCloud? And how has your experience been?

My wife used to use something that rhymes with Doodle Bozos, now we all switched to self-hosted Immich and have never looked back!

I have a basic iCloud subscription, 50 GB/Rs 75 per month. I share with two others in the family. This is mostly for device backups. All other data, files, photos etc are stored in Google Drive/Google Photos.

Since your use case is for photo backup, Google Photos work great on iPhone. Syncing is seamless. Since I don't need the photos in original quality, I have it set to backup in Storage saver mode. I delete the photos from the device once in a while as part of reclaiming local storage.

And since I am using a legacy Google Apps / GSuite (custom domain) account, I get the storage for free.

I have been using OneDrive with my iPhone for several years now to automatically sync camera uploads as well as to save files from other apps since it integrates with the iOS Files app as well. Pretty seamless.

The only reason to use iCloud is for iOS and Message backups.

I am using Google Drive for photos backup on the iPhone. I also have an iCloud subscription (the 50GB plan), but since I have already been using Google photos for several years now, I continue to use the same on iPhone too. I have not faced any issue with the backups. It is pretty much seamless. Please let me know if you have any specific query in mind.

I still prefer one drive and have 1tb professional subscription and integrated sync is great especially if you are on windows, but if given an option between iCloud and gdrive i would always choose iCloud as google will always compromise your privacy
