Hi All...

First of, i have no much idea abt a AV receiver other than it can take multiple inputs and output to single device like LCD/Speakers. So help me out.

I have few devices like PS3, Media player, Laptop(with 5.1) and a Benq E2200HD with a Z5500.
The Z5500 can accept a optical from PS3, CoAxial from media player and Analog from Laptop. and Benq got 1*HDMI and 1*DVI only. and i dont have a DVI-HDMI. even if i get one.. i have to juggle between 2 equipments if i want my laptop to be connected to LCD.

Upto the above situation, i can manage. no issues other than just shifting cables.

But come oct-nov.. My elder bro will be bringing me a 360 S.. :S... then things are not so fine anymore. and only HDMI out i am going to use.

So please help how to keep all devices connected at the same time. the laptop will only be needing the audio all time. the video may not be necessary.

Is getting a AV receiver the answer?. which is the most cheapest..VFM one?. i can get it from UK if necessary. can i connect my z5500 to a receiver?. how to do that...

Or am i getting everything wrong and something else is the soln.

Any help appreciated.

Since you want to use the Z-5500 for sound, you can only use the receiver for video switching, so you might as well just get a HDMI switch. You cannot use the amplified audio outputs from the receiver and it's very unlikely that the receiver will have line outs for multichannel to connect to the Z-5500's analog inputs. Get an SPDIF switch to connect multiple optical cables to the Z-5500. The 360 slim has an onboard optical port IIRC.

If you buy a receiver then you'll need to get regular speakers, but you can connect EVERYTHING to the receiver and simply change the audio/video input on the receiver. You need to get a receiver that supports multichannel analog input to connect the laptop, which is very rare now-a-days except in the high end ones. Or be stuck with stereo analog sound from the laptop. If you don't want multichannel analog from the laptop then you can get the Onkyo HT-S3300 receiver & speaker package. Connect everything through HDMI for audio & video, and connect the laptop to aux input for stereo analog.

Cant afford to do that now... else would have... maybe next year or so..
