I have National Dual Layered DVD's which i bought from Ebay through DVDshop guy.

Now my question is, is burning at 2.4x much better than burning at 4x?

I am asking this as burning ONE disc takes 45 mins and that's a lotta time TBH.

I use IMGburn to burn my discs (awesome software) and was thinking about this question, so if someone has any insight, please help cause i am sick of burning only 4 discs every 3 hours!

Compare a scan of DVDs burned at both speeds.
AFAIK it is recommended to burn the DVDs at less than their rated/max speed, but that can be snake oil too. Most of the tips and tricks that you will find online are atleast 2-3 years old and will be specific to the drives/media used. It is better to test yourself and be assured of your drive's performance.

The only example I remember that required burning at 2.4X was for X360 Game discs. If you are just burning data, then 4x would be fine too.

I prefer HDDs as they are cheaper and easier to manage.

Easier to manage is correct, but cheaper? I don't think so. In Jan i got 100 Dual layered DVD's for 1100 bucks shipped. Imagine i burn 7.5 gigs a disc, that's 750 GB for 1100 bucks.

What brand? and from where?

It's always said that slower one burns the dvd, the better it is. supsd to read better when scratched or something. but 2.4X is just too slow.

its always good to use HDD to store stuff as with DVD , you run risk of scratching the surface and usual wear and tear.

also its always suggested to use slower speed than rated speed.

it's not cheaper for you aman cause you get the national ones. moserbaer single layer is roughly 15rs each so 200 of those will be around 900GB and that's 3K and a 1TB hdd is also arnd 2.8K so it works out the same.

and your data secuity is more as you dont get scratching HDD but getting scratched DVD is more frequent .

usual wear and tear also is more in case of DVD disk and hassel of burning disk and labeling it.

I had kept my DVD's on a local pouch in a shelf and when I tried to use them after 6 months, none of them were readable. Lost a ton of data and from then on I dont trust DVD's as my sole backup media. If you are talking in terms of 500GB/1TB, a hard drive is a better option IMO.

^I have burnt DL-DVD an year ago and they are still working fine. Plus I have burnt it on National DL-DVDs. I have burnt data even on DVD three years ago and I have never faced any problem till date.

@Aman- I have DL-DVD from dvdstoredelhi. I have burnt almost 250-300 DL-DVDs at 4X speed. I have never faced any issues till date. So, 4X speed is the safer speed to burn and takes 20 odd minutes to burn them.

depends on where u'll play..

used to burn mp3 at a fast rate my car cd player would always skip, then i tried on the slowest rate on nero and it used to play flawlessly.

Same with me. I have 3.5-4 year old DVD's running great.
