hi guys....

i wanted to buy a cool laptop.....so i was thinkin of buyin the latest one... but the prices for coreduo are as high as skyscraper..... @ 60k

so is it worth buying it now......

Once Merom is launched, prices will crash for sure. Also kickass rig there Kau,from whom did you get the DFI ?

I recently bought a Core DUO :P It really works pretty well. If you feel prices are high, wait for some time. HArdware prices almost always fall.

But I suggest don't get it imported to save some bucks!! All global warranty claims are false. Most of the times, they don't work. I would always prefer to take it from here for 2 reasons.

First, warranty.

Second, depreciation. If you are taking it in the name of a business company/firm, you get 60% depreciation on the purchase price per year in Income Tax and reduce tax liability. So if you take it for 50K, first year you get 30K as deduction, next year 12K (60% of 20K) and so on. So in 3 yrs, its almost free. If you import, you may lose this benefit.

I think it is like this ...

YONAH = Core Duo (the present generation).

MEROM = Core 2 Duo mobile (the next gen....for which Conroe will be the desktop part).

Conroe/Merom/Yonah/Pressler/Prescott are all just names. More like working names. when they are released they have proper names like Core duo, core 2 duo, etc...etc...

DELL has a real VFM core duo @47K. Might go just above 50K incl tax

man the prices of good laptops ever coming down to 30-35k?? soo looking for one in that budget!! the ones available are crap!

First shipments of Meroms are committed to Apple and Lenovo. Apple is well Apple. Lenovo arent nice for budget buyers. So I doubt about the availability of merom based laptops at its launch in India. Dell was the first to launch Core Duo big time, but that wont be the case this time. Dell has already signed with AMD for its next gen mobile computing in near future considering this issue.

So wait and watch. If you are willing to wait for a few months, it would be a nice choice. But Core duo is not bad either.

ok...guys.....i finally decided to buy one......could you please suggest me the best lappy i can get for a budget of 55k - 65k....... i'll really be thankful!!!

nothin....but must not be too heavy.....the best deal i can get....nd don't mind if its heavy...

I actually wanted to know the screen size you looking at .... 12"/13"/14"/15"/17"? and whether you loooking for widescrrens or normal XGA`

IMHO anything above 14" starts getting heavy & bulky and 15"/17" are more suited as desktop replacements
