I am using a Viewsonic VX 2235 WM 22" LCD. Working perfectly.

Just saw the GO offer for Dell U2311H monitor for 13K

Is it VFM to upgrade to the DELL monitor ?

Thanks for advising

No it is not. It will just look "different" not necessarily better. Definitely not better enough to justify spending 13k. The wide viewing angle is a moot point for PC. Upgrade for size and pixel density, nothing else.

It IS a good monitor on its own. But not worth it when you already have an LCD of the same size. Your eyes will automatically adjust to any response time and contrast ratio in a few days time and the superior specs of the monitor will be rendered useless. You won't really gain anything other than being impressed with it for a few days.

whats this talk....its an IPS ( in-plane Switching) panel ...far superior colors and contrast ratio than the basic TN ( twisted nematic ) .... TNs cant compare to IPS panel

IPS panels are the best pannels money can buy the same panels that that are used in apple cinema displays.

the difference will be immediately noticeable ...with, greater viewing angle, vivid colors and good contrast ratio ....

THe offer is great if not for my MVA panel LG 24" i'd have grabbed the offer

to give you an idea ....the 24" IPS panel from dell costs past 30K!!...while 24" TN panels can be grabbed at 11K ....and dell ultrasharp is tried and tested one of the best IPS panels in the world...i know cause i have did my reserch when i was buying 24" lcd 2 years back ...then dell was 40K ....got my LG for 28K ...MVA panels are also very good panels ...it now costs 22K

IPS/MVA/PVA panels are premium panels they will never cone at cheep prices ....they will go out of production rather

Dude I appreciate it for what it is, but it serves no practical purpose for the desktop user unless you're doing things that require accurate color reproduction like DTP. How do you know which is the original color of the image you're viewing without a printed reference? You either buy it because you actually need it, or because you want a premium product. It's practically useless in any other case. It's not like earphones where the quality can be objectively defined and can be gauged without a reference. The only other benefit is wide viewing angle which is again useless for a desktop. Aside from a difference in contrast ratio, there is no other immediately noticeable benefit. The biggest setback is you eyes will adjust in a few days and ANYTHING will seem normal.

what are the qualities of a picture

1. color

2. Gamma ( ...can be interpreted as brightness)

3. contrast

IPS panel does all the above better than TN panel

What are the qualities of a video :

1.Picture quality

2.Frame rate ( in regards to the response time of the monitor)

the only area where TN beats IPS is response time ....early IPS panels were pone to ghosting( less responce times )...but the responce time of IPS has improved rgreately though still higher than a TN panel( TN panel now a days come with insane response times )....now there is no ghosting in IPS panels even at 60FPS! .....I am quite sure the new 23" ultrasharp has no ghosting issues( the early ultra sharps had issues that was fixed with 2408 ultrasharp)

now the idea "eyes will adjust in a few days and ANYTHING will seem normal ".......what can i say ??

you will be viewing better quality videos and of course it will more enjoyable in games and movies ....vivid color ....more lifelike . ....90% of the times our eyes look at surroundings ( real life ....real color) ...how can they adjust to 10% of what they see!

I understand all the technicalities man, but having moved from CRT to crappy LCD to better LCD, the perceived improvement in quality is nullified within 3-4 days of use. I played CS for years with 40ms (!) response time and after a few days I could not see the awful ghosting anymore which was dreadfully apparent when I first got the monitor.

The biggest improvements that feel worth the money are size and resolution. Paying 13k just for better image quality is a waste without a considerably bigger screen at the least. 13k is much better spent on upgrading his 4870 to a 5850 or something.

If someone were buying a new monitor and had the cash to spend I would blindly recommend a U series monitor, but not for an upgrade of the same size.

Think it all depends on needs and money.

If the OP is thinking of a new monitor, the Dell seems to be a very good deal. or if OP needs a monitor for graphics design or anything that needs more accurate colors (more like printing), Its an awsome deal.

But if OP is a computer user like me i.e a user who is not too much into graphics, mainly work on text and maybe occasional watching of movies, the present one should suffice unless there is some problem.

So go for it if you were planning for a new monitor in next ~6months or you are ok with spending 13k even though its not necessary.

Its not anything to do with TN vs IPS. Everyone knows what the difference is (well almost).

OF course there is no need for a good quality low response tine- monitor if you CPU cane even deliver the 30 fps in current games

but ...as he has 4870 ...its all right ...he cant up grade to DX11 ones ( CPU bottleneck ...thus much more cost involved)

and yeah if he uses it for office like or casual entertainment ...no need....but i doubt that

if he has a entertainment center ...isay go for it

though cant comment on buygamingstuff best option is to pick it up when you are in mumbai in near future....
