Is downloading TV Series Illegal ?

^ They are available for online view. Its really not convenient to view episodes online week after week. Let alone the hassles of buffering and all.
 
Yes it's illegal. The studios are not earning anything from the shows posted online. Why do you have this doubt anyway? The answer's quite obvious no :/
 
^^ But i suppose they must be earning by forced ads or in the program advertisments which come at bottom of screen or likes.

Nopes....torrenting is not illegal. It just depends on the content one is downloading and if it is copyrighted then it is illegal.
And yes almost 99.99% torrents are illegal :P
 
Legality is usually an open and shut matter. if not, the courts decide. Its not decided by polls :P

Downloading of an unauthorized recording has to be illegal. By the above arguements, downloading music should also be free, since you hear it on the radio anyway.

Ethics, well, that's another matter, and I think that's what you have in mind

Everything inside your brain is BS! Stop spreading FUD in the first place.

There're several rock bands which distribute their own music thru torrents.

Tv series when download lose their advertisers.This huge revenue loss obviously thwarts TV Series provider.
This way downloading TV series if obviously illegal,unless TV series have gone free for all.

There's two elements here content ownership + distribution rights. Content owners have agreements with distributors who air it, press DVD's etc. Only the authorised distributors are allowed to peddle it.

If the content owner decides to put the show on the web then that's their choice of which website it gets put on. So, its still illegal if you torrent it coz the content owner's have not authorised its distribution in this manner.

There's exceptions of course but they tend to be in the non-signficant minority (so far).
 
blr_p is right. Content owners sell their content to TV channels for a specific location. These TV channels make money by ads and thru fee from cable operaters such as Dish/Sky.

Now even Hulu gets this content, but it is authorised to show it only in the US by the content owners, so all ADs on Hulu are focued on the American people. (you can also guess that because some of them r really lame and stupid)

However in most countries, the local TV channels get the latest stuff almost the same week. Including where I am now.. The Philippines!

The episodes on the website of TV channels is also limited to a pericular geography.

In India the content is delayed by a huge margin, this is because fresh content costs much more then 1 year old stuff! :@

So to the OP downloading content thru torrents is illegal, this is black and white!
 
I download anime all the time. I do not think it is illegal because many of the animes never air in India, so I am not really sure if anyone loses anything by my act of downloading.

Unless you are downloading something like Linux. But most of the torrents available are illegal. Who cares? I am tired of useless Anime dubs(most games have better english voice actors) and american shows which come to India late. Besides whats the point of having a HDTV without being able to watch some HD tv shows.
