I have seen many friends in so much debt that, they were trying to pay the due bills even 1 year after graduation(IITians, so not so low paying salary). Its your choice, they got a good JOB(or knew that they will 
) and then spent thousands/lacs in hope that after the JOB they will pay, But in starting days of new JOB, its hard to control money and I could always see them in money problem at the end of each month for almost a year.. Myself included 
(not exactly 'cause of credit card, but my nature of spending money)
Edit: On a note, Now a days almost every site has netbanking facility. Even I have stopped using credit cards unless it is really necessary, so that I can see my balance going down as I spend more in my saving account.
