Is Google a Reality or a Hype?

Hi friends,

The reason to start this thread is, I m just observing that Their is much hype as far as Google is concerned. I m sorry if any similer thread is existing. But from last many years we are making noice about google and its products. Be is Gmail, Orkut, Buzz and Now Google +. Apart from its search engine. What I believe none of its product is succeeded so far.except Youtube ( Which again is not their product, but they had buyed out) and Gmail. It was so much noice about Google Buzz, where its now????. I am not here to make comparison with any company or my motto is not to bash any Company, but I request you all to discuss that Aren't we make more noice about any company instead of doing some reality check. Thanks in Advance. :)
 
Google search is not a success? :O

Google Maps, Google Ads, Google Translator, Google Docs, Google Apps, Android - are some of their services that come across as successful to me.

Its true their success ratio might seem lower, but thats because they tend to try any idea they come across. As for the hype, thats more about people expecting big things from google.
 
Picasa, gtalk, google checkout, blogger, adsense, google calander, adwords, google docs, chrome. Not to mention current dominant smartphone platform Android.

And the did acquire some things like youtube. But they made it into a success it is today.

It's a good thing that they have not succeeded in everything they tried. Competition is better for consumers. Too much power in single hand can be disastrous in the long run. And anyways I don't want the advertising giant to invade every nook and cranny of my private life.

Yes, they experiment a lot and most of their products are results of some free time and ingenuity from their employees.

So? Its their policies that got these products out. Success of every firm is highly dependent on the creativity, productivity and talent of all people involved including their employees.

The google work environment is one of the best in Industry. Even then they are shutting down google labs now.

And you call Google docs, maps, adsense and Android failures? Check the reality again ;)
 
I am not a big fan of google but i am glad that google exists. They experimented with many things some were dumb and some did not have a mass appeal - Google wave its a great concept but it is not often that we see people working online as a group or have a meeting online. the product did not have a mass appeal so hence it is not a hit. Coming to orkut i see it as a half hearted effort towards social networking the product did not even cross its beta stages. They did not change much after its launch after facebook got immensive popularity they added some features but did not go all out towards it like google plus , Gmail has been their superstar along with search engine from day 1. Android is taking over the mobile operating system market. The main thing about this noise is that there is no other company that is a competition to google.
