Hey frnds, was thnking of upgrading frm my tried n tested 88GT to a GTX260 C216. The thng thats been nigglin me though is the advent of dx11:S. So, as the title says, sud i go for it or wait it out for the GT3xx to arrive? As it is, my current card still somehow is managing to satisfy my needs.

Rig Specs : E6750 @ 3.2, XFX 650i, VX450w, 22" lcd.

I'v got a lucrative offer for my 88GT, hence the urge to upgrade:P

Thnx

U've got a 8800GT. Keep it dude. No use buying a GTX260, especially when you play at 1680x1050 resolution.

Buy a 40nm DX11 card when it comes.

Agreed. If you can, wait till DX11 cards are out. And it won't take as much time to get matured as DX10 because by the looks of it, Win 7 is going to be quite popular & it comes with DX11.

So...your call.

Always upgrade minimum 2 generations up, else I would say waste of resources.

8800gt even today is considered a beast. i dont thnk there's any point buying a gtx 260 as coz the performance difference wont be huge especially when u're gaming at 1680x1050. wait for a dx 11 card to come out then make a purchase.

I went from 88gt to 260GTX, lot of difference, everything is so much better.

I will SLI 260 in 8-9months

I will say go for it!

dude.. on a 19" u saw lots of difference? hmm...

In that case i would suggest Op to OC his card... Default clocks of generic 88gt is 600Mhz/1750Mhz (Core/Memory), so a little push to 700/2000 isnt gonna hurt... I hope you have good ventilation/air flow on the card.

incase u have aftermarket cooler, then u can flash the bios and push it to 750/2050 easily.

But if OP is satisfied as he said, then nothing can get better :)

^ I was on 17", and I have used GT-GTS-4850-4870, I saw lots of differance.

260/4870 can compete against 9800GX2 when AA enabled, remember GX2 = GTS 512MB Sli. 2 x 8800GT will be slower than 260 @ 1680 + and AA.

@ OP - 4870 512MB @ 9k is best upgrade for you.

Thnx for the inputs. Card does 700/1950 easy btw, have an accelero s1 with turbo modules fitted.
Just a final query, what if the upgrade to a brand new xfx gtx260 c216 cost me around/less than 5k...does that change the scenario?

wait for new Graphic cards to come out. 8800Gt is good enough for today's games.

I can wait it out i guess, but with the reported low yeilds of the GT3xx chips i'm quite sceptical abt initial pricings. Also with titles like COJ-2 just arnd the corner i thnk i cud use some extra horsepower.

@ sidhu

a 4870 is also under serious consideration, but i want a bit more vram than the 512mb...

if the GTX 260 is within 5k reach after the sale of current 8800GT, its 100% worth the upgrade.
Coz opportunity wont strike twice..:ohyeah:
u wont be getting such an offer to sell of ur card again. Coz brand new Palit 9800GT [same as 8800GT] costs just 5.6k.
So u shudnt be expecting more than 4k for urs.:bleh:
anythin more, and lock the deal.:D

What r u saying man!

Firstly I'm at 1680x1050, there is a lot of difference from 88GT to 260GTX on 1680

and even at 1440x900 there is a whole lot of difference. Play COH /w AA and you'll know what I'm talking about..

At 5k extra, don't think twice go for it.

Also GTX260 > 4870 1GB

Thnx again for all ur inputs, went ahead and bought the GTX260 C216. The 65nm one though, coz i luvd the backplate:P

should have bought the 55nm gpu, power savings + lesser heat dissipation.
how much did it cost u?
partially true, but acc to some reviews, the 55nm runs tad hotter due to the smaller stock HSF. Also 55nms in this price range(Palit/MSI) comes with a RED:tongue: pcb, i have strong objections to hardware housed on RED pcbs....hehehe. Also, the backplate is droolworthy.

cost me tad over 11k
