Storage Solutions Is it advisable to use laptop HDD in desktop?

Today I ordered a 1 TB Seagate sata 3 HDD and after ordering it, I saw that I am getting USB 3 5400 RPM HDDs at 100 bucks higher than the seagate 3.5" drive. So was thinking of buying that, taking out the HDD and using it as internal drive. This way I would be able to use it internally and externally in the future if required.
Is it advisable? I would be using it for videos storage only so it would be idle for most time. Games and softwares would be on different drive.

If its only 100 bucks more, its most likely a 3.5" external drive not a 2.5" laptop drive. In any case there is nothing wrong with using a laptop drive (although performance tends to be slower due to power and size restrictions). But opening up your external drive casing will void your warranty. I've heard people say that only WD allow you to open up your external casing to retrieve the drive for data backup.
