Is it illegal to record fraud calls and report it to cops?

I got a fraud call from a person claiming to be from "All India ATM service" and asking me my ATM card no and CVV. I had automatic call recording enabled, so I decided to play with him for a little bit and then disconnect the call. Can I go ahead and report the no. to Police along with the call recording as proof? Is it legal? I know recording calls is illegal in India and it might backfire on me itself. But what in the case of fraudulent calls?

Ya you can go to police and also inform the bank. Nothing is fraud unless your usage is for protection and is harmless and for gathering proof. Just share it with the legal and authorized authority.
