HI,
I am planning to make a new PC for General Use in Budget of 30k.

I have already brought 8 GB ( 4GB X 2 ) G Skill Snipper.

My friend told me ki now you will have to install 64 bit OS.

Is it compulsory to install 64 bit OS having More then 4 Gb RAm in the system or our usual 32 bit will also support.

Please help me.
Thanks in advance for viewing the Thread.

Its upto you, but knowing the x86 OS Ram limitation, it would be foolishness either to choose >4GB Ram or o not choose x64 OS

if u can't have a 64 bits os then u can use dram software to convert the rest ram to a ssd type hdd where u can install up to what amount of ram u decide to make that drive.

just google for dram software :)

note : the free version only allows 2gb of ram to be converted and so if willing more to install the u need to buy it.

or best is try to get u hands on 64 bits windows ;) or linux.

^ generally there are separate x64 version of the required softwares

separate x64 bit setups are necessary for system softwares and other such critical system programs, like drives

32bit can use only upto 3.5GB of RAM and rest goes waste. You will need to install 64bit windows as it can handle from 4GB to 128GB/256GB of RAM. As far as Softwares are concerned mostly each software are made to support both the versions. Even if not there then as CA50 said separate versions are also created. Don't worry about the software you will get almost 98% of the software that you need which supports 64bit. :)

In are ready to work with Linux, read about PAE Kernels.

I think some editions of MS Windows supports PAE, but not that useful.

Its rather better to go with 64bit OS.

The limit is actually a Microsoft imposed limit, 32bit versions of their server lineup support upto 64gb !

Proof :

Memory Limits for Windows Releases (Windows)

Link please ? googling didnt help

Read it carefully. There is a discalimer there
Physical Memory Limits: Windows Server 2008
The following table specifies the limits on physical memory for Windows Server 2008. Limits greater than 4 GB for 32-bit Windows assume that PAE is enabled.

A 32 bit processor means it can address 2^32 = 4096 GBytes ideally. It is a limitation of address lines (hardware) and not microsoft imposed limitation.

because i have heard 64bit OS doesnt support all the softwares which are supported by 32bit OS.

well whatever u heard is incorrect then, welcome to the new age then, u have seperate 64 bit versions of quite alot of softwares out there and if there's one odd that don't have a 64bit i'm sure u can run it in 32bit, which is no issues as i do run 1 on my own pc.

Depends on your usage.i have a lot of 32 bit software and games i use on a daily basis.on 64 bit system its hit or miss running in the compatibility mode.after trying to live with a new laptop with 64 bit os i reverted to the 32 bit os with 4 gb ram.i am happy now!!!!!. you can always upgrade the os,install the os and software by checking compatibility.if you don't have any 32 bit software that you can't live without,go for 64 bit computing.

My recommendation is to install and use 64bit, and in the rare even that you have a piece of software that runs properly only on 32bit, run it using a virtual Windows XP installation on Virtualbox/VMware.
